Causes of Trucking Accidents
Everyone has a duty to drive safely on New Jersey roads. Reckless or negligent driving by any driver can cause a serious injury and even death. Yet, when an accident involves a truck, the injuries are almost always catastrophic. That is why the state and federal governments hold truck drivers and trucking companies to higher safety standards than other drivers. Even with those safety standards, truck drivers continue to commit serious errors that lead to terrible accidents and injuries.

FMCSRs: Truck Driver Regulations
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requires truck drivers and trucking companies to follow set rules (the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, or FMCSRs) geared at making the roads safer for all drivers. Some of these regulations include:
- Drug and alcohol testing to prevent drunk driving/DUI
- Restricted amount of time that a truck driver may be on the road without rest to prevent driver fatigue/drivers falling asleep at the wheel
- Required inspection, repair, and maintenance of trucks
- Rules for transporting different types of goods, including hazardous materials
- Size and weight limits
If every driver and company followed these regulations, there would be fewer truck accidents on our roads. Our New Jersey truck accident lawyers can review truck driver log books and work with accident reconstruction experts and other professionals to determine whether a violation of trucking regulations caused your trucking accident.
